Hey guys!

I have been thinking about getting the bdsm emblem tattooed on my body for several years now, and recently I have been spending more and more time researching for the perfect design.

However, it's hard for me to decide on the exact design, one of the reasons being that I haven't found one that I feel is exactly right for me. Since it's going to be on my body for many years to come I don't want to do it half-heartedly!

The symbol has a significant meaning and details that make it stand for what it stands, so not much can be changed about the basic design, on the other hand, I would also like it to be PRETTY, feminine, and unique. So far I haven't found such a design.

That's where you might come in! I know there are so many really talented and creative artists on DA, I figured I'd give it a try to see if any DA'ers have a pretty design in mind. I already bumped into some wonderful designs, but not yet the perfect one.

I can't offer much in return but ofcourse the chosen design will have the honour of being on my body fohevurrrr ;-)

Here is a useful link to explain what the symbol looks like and what it is and is not. emblemproject.sagcs.net/is.htm

Some pointers for the design are that it needs to fit onto my body, so not be too big and masculine of a design. That is one of the objections I have with the traditional design, it looks quite manly to me.

It would be nice if it's somewhat subtle since it might be on a visible place and it'd be fun to keep people guessing if it's an actual symbol or just "pretty".

For me, bdsm is a lot about love, so if the symbol could represent both that would be totally awesome. Cute hearts are nice, but I wonder how good they will look when I'm 50.

I hope you can help me out!!

Did you get a tattoo in the end? I am kind of curious what did you choose :)
Me and my slave are thinking about a tattoo too and we are in search of ideas!

What if you chose a picture of the BDSM ring, or the Ring of "O" as a tattoo? The ring, being a piece of jewelry, is feminine enough imho (more feminine at least than the Triskele itself) and the tattoo would still be seen in the right context.

SuaveEmo's suggestion of a branding reminded me of the "kef" or "dina" Gorean Lifestylers are using (more exactly: those who live out their desire to "play" a 24/7 Gorean slave), but I really don't see you as a kajira. That's why I'd rather not suggest it.

But the story of "O" was based on the fact that her name started with an O, and mine doesn't... ;-)

I don't know that many people actually into Gor, apart from in cyberspace,so although I am not turning it down i wouldn't join in with a tattoo just like that either. Thanx for the info tho :-)

From what I understand of BDSM it is a dynamic lifestyle, based on ever expanding boundaries. It is also based on trust, love, and Strength of will.

Personally I believe that your symbol should define what this means to you. This is tough especially since It is going to be subtle, and your views of that tattoo are going to change as your relationship grows.

Personally, I would do small tree, perhaps a bonzi tree and make the symbol out of branches. To represent your growing lifestyle, and strength of will.

Just a thought,

Jer

If you are still looking for tattoo styles , here is my personal favorite.

[link]

here is what this means:
"Ahura Mazda (Ahura = Life and Mazda = Wisdom) – Is interpreted as or “Lord of Life and Wisdom” is “The supreme God” to the Zoroastrians (the oldest of the revealed world-religions dated back to 6,000 BC).

More specifically, the human figure is meant to remind us of our mortal duties. The left hand points straight indicating the unwavering path of goodness. If we traverse this path without wavering, then we shall reach unto the divine light of Ahura Mazda.

The right hand holds a ring. Being a circular figure, the ring has no beginning or ending points, thus conveying that knowledge in this world is infinite and continuous.

The wings give the symbol its mysticism as they serve to show that the persevering strive for goodness ultimately results in the ascending of the soul in the direction of that divine light.

This ancient system of thought was developed in the Persian realm and is credited as being the first monotheistic religion. Zoroastrianism served as the state religion for the Achaemenid and Sassanid empires for a span of almost 2,000 years.

Zoroastrians live by the proverb: "Raftarinik ...Goftarinik ...Pendarinik" Literally meaning: "Do Good Deeds ...Say Good Words ...Think Good Thoughts""

It's a very cool design imagine this tattoo on your lower back, now that's HOT HOT HOT.

How much change are you allowing for here? The point of the symbol seems to be fairly strict about the design elements, so I presume you still want it "metal" with holes rather than dots? And where (roughly) would you want it? (not to be perving, but different place=different size+ different ornamentation to make it feminine)

I don't care too much about those guidelines, because that way the only way I could use the symbol is the way it is, and that is much too masculine for me (maybe exactly because of the bulky metal)

Depending on the level of detail, it would be placed on my wrist.

well what is your position in bdsm are you a top or bottom
i was thinking if you would like two hands bound together holding the symbol up or down symbolizing wat you r ,and maybe making the symbol out of rope since your ok with a few changes to the symbol amnd yes black ink tends to turn green.so depending on your skin tone you have other options. i just came with that idea .maybe if i take a bit longer to think i can brain strom it .N E ways your freakin hott i cant wait to see you in the future anyway you can send me a copy of your mag, well party on

As I said it'll be placed on a fairly visible place so I would actually prefer it to not be too obvious, only to the people who know what it mean. Rope and tied hands would be a bit much I think, just the simplicity of the symbol is enough for me.

HI
I just had a quick go at this, sorry it looks a bit rough around the edges.
The colours I took a guess at, you could change those. What I did was take your silhouette and used it for the curves - that way it is made from you.
Turned the holes into hearts.
(upper right what it might look like actual size on skin tone)

Tattoos reaspond to the logic "life is now !"
These days on the beach I was sadly looking at an old lady with a tattoo on her back. Originally it was about a boy & a girl sitted back at back, I guess. Now they seem to be laid down horizontaly, as dead people ..
Life is now - today. But what about tomorrow? In my opinion you shoud not spoil your gorgeaus body with silly thinks. With Love ...

For a lot of people the symbol of a tattoo is as important, if not more, than decorating their bodies. The lady with the aged tattoo probably still deeply values that image--despite your pity. There isn't a problem with the tattoo, the problem is with you.

Don't misjudge that sense of pity. It has inspired masterpieces in all arts. One is "Stairway to heaven" as told by same Robert Plant. But I wonder if the lady who inspired it has been ever conscious or happy to be the muse .. Anyhow nice to have a frank exchange of opinions.

There is an inteview specifying it - even in one of the books about them: Hammer of the Gods of S. Davis - i.e. it was inspired by a wouldbe groopy in her thierties, trussed with glitters.

i'm afraid this wont really help but i have to bring it out..

just keep on searching for the perfect design and dont let it be real.

maybe there's some pretty style you're pleased with, but how long.. for a lifetime(?)

as far as i could see on several pics your body is beautifully shaped just the way it is, so no need for another tattoo.

the cross on your belly is okay tho. ;)

If you're not sure about the tattoo or if you want to "change it" after a while, juste for fun, you should look on to semi-permanent tattoos: it lasts 3 to 5 years. It's a make up technique that has been used into tattoos so it's really interesting if you don't want to have an old colorless stained tattoo 30 years from now...
Just sayin'...

Can you give an idea of the size you are thinking about getting so that the detail in the design can be fine tuned, no point suggesting a design if the size is to small to incorporate all the detail.

If you planning on doing the tatto that small, you shound avoid and rendering, and try to keep it simple and delicate, otherwise it will look like an "ink blob" from distance. Here's a suggestion: [link]

There is a brazilian tatoo artist that makes great use of this kind of line work, here's a example: [link]
I know his tatoos are too big but is a great exampe of the textures of the lines once they're on skin.
If you really like my designs, let me know if you want to see any tweaking on then, I'll love to help you further with your tatto design!

Any idea where on your body you want the tattoo Ancilla?
